The Importance of the SAVE America Act

By: Thomas Preston

On January 30, 2026, Rep. Chip Roy from Texas introduced the Save America Act to the house. This bill will require individuals to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote, as well as, require individuals to show photo I.D. in federal elections. The bill also requires states to identify any non-citizens to be removed from their list of eligible voters. The purpose of this bill is counter the possibility of voter or election fraud to ensure the integrity of elections in the United States.

Based on recent elections and certain individual states governing of their own elections, this bill was absolutely a necessity. The idea that states would allow non-citizens to vote is corrupt and fraudulent. Asking to verify citizenship when voting is a simple fix to any potential fraud. It is strange that this appears to be a partisan issue of contention. For one, this is an issue backed by the majority of Americans regardless of their political party. Studies suggest 80% of Republicans & 70% of Democrats favor verification when voting. Americans are fine showing I.D.s at the DMV, airport, when purchasing alcohol, etc. This bill will serve as a protector of the integrity of our democracy & needs to be passed through the senate and signed by the president.

I encourage those in favor of this bill to closely analyze those representatives and senate members who choose to oppose this bill. What is the logic in not wanting to verify someone voting for governing body of our country being a citizen. Those who oppose this bill are portraying the message that they do not wish to verify those in our elections are citizens. There is a saying when wanting to understand behavior you must always look at the incentives. The incentive of a politician not supporting this bill is that they will lose voters who are non-citizens. Essentially, they are pro-fraud. I encourage all Americans to thoroughly follow the process of this bill and the reactions of government body members.

Let us hope we can guarantee the integrity of American elections and our democratic republic.
